Fall 2009 trends/style for back to school?

Alright, so I'm already thinking about my back to school wardrobe for this fall, and what kind of staples should I buy that will be versatile with the fall trends and what other stuff I should buy like converse. I heard that plaid is in but I'm not sure whether or not it's worth it to add it to my list lol. Thanks!
