Small dent to car ok to ignore? or insurance job?

That is called the sill, and is a part of the strength of the car which is check at the MOT / vehicle test / whatever it is where you are. If it's only small then you should be fine, but if might be best to go get it looked at quickly as I'm sure they won't charge you for spending 10 seconds looking!
