Is he shy or is he not interested.?

i have this crush on this football player and i went up to him exactly twice to ask him a question that i already knew the answer to. lol. but ever since then, at the game when im cheering, in the hall ways, or during lunch he keeps on looking at me. he never really came up to me and talk to me but he keeps on looking at me. at my cheer practice, since we practice in the cafeteria, he came and got some snacks from the vending machines and sat down in one of the tables and watched us cheer. i was sitting down in the table taking a break with a friend and when he was done eating, he walked towards me and ped by me. i dont know if he's interested or anything. do you think he's shy but interested or is he just looking at me for no reason??? how should i start talking to him besides just saying hey im ____.
